    1. What does it mean to major in computer science?
Computer science analyzes how information is processed and distributed in our society. Computer scientists design, study, and maintain the structures, processes, and systems needed to keep information flowing. Computer science encompasses a wide range of topics from artificial intelligence to robotics to computer-aided design to computer vision.
    2. Why is the University of Mississippi a good place to study computer science?
The UM Computer Science Department is based in newly renovated Weir Hall, which we share with the University’s new Galtney Center for Academic Computing. We have technologically advanced classrooms dedicated to our program. We also have two computer laboratories made possible by the department’s one million dollar endowment established by John Adler. Recently we purchased thirty new computers to enhance the teaching and learning capabilities of our laboratories.
The department has a growing research program. Research areas include software architecture and engineering, programming methodologies, artificial intelligence, machine learning, bioinformatics, distributed systems, open-source software, and educational applications of computing.
    3. What can UM computer science majors do after graduation?
Software development, computer game development, systems analysis, database management, artificial intelligence research, programming, network management, special effects design, technical support
