Gail Stratton, lecturer and coordinator of laboratory programs for the Department of Biology; Ryan Upshaw (BA psychology ’06, MA higher education ’08), the assistant dean of student services for the School of Engineering; and Will Norton, dean and professor of journalism and new media, received Lift Every Voice Awards at the the University of Mississippi Black History Month opening celebration yesterday.

“The UM Black Faculty and Staff Organization founded the Lift Every Voice award to recognize an individual, group, or entity that has contributed to the betterment of human relationships on our campus,” said Shawnboda Mead, director of the UM Center for Inclusion and Cross Cultural Engagement.

“Particular emphasis is given to the areas of diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusion. Award recipients have worked beyond their normal employment boundaries and performed the ‘extra mile’ of service to their fellow man for the university.”
