Alumni Leah and Gary Lawson of Peachtree City, Georgia are providing scholarships to deserving students in the University of Mississippi College of Liberal Arts.

“The University of Mississippi is such a special place to both Leah and I that we have always wanted to help others who might not be able to attend without a scholarship,” said Gary Lawson (BA English and history ’96; JD ’99).

“I wanted to direct that the scholarship be awarded to a first-generation college student to give other first-generation college students like myself a chance to attend college without having to fund their college experience solely through student loans.”

Lawson Scholarship recipients are full-time incoming freshmen in the College of Liberal Arts with a minimum high school grade point average of 3.0 who are selected based on demonstrated academic excellence and financial need. First preference is given to students in the College of Liberal Arts who are also enrolled in the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College. Recipients may retain the scholarship for up to eight semesters provided they maintain at least a 3.0 grade point average.
