Glenn Kellum and his sister-in law, Gloria Kellum, and their families have established the Helen Ward Kellum Legacy Award for Excellence in Theatre Arts Endowment to honor Helen’s devotion to the University of Mississippi Department of Theatre & Film and her students.

During her tenure as an associate professor in the theatre arts department where she directed musicals, plays, and taught for three decades beginning in 1965 until her retirement in 1991, Helen provided her students the opportunity of taking annual trips to New York or London so that they could experience the best in live theatre. This endowment will provide stipends for theatre majors to continue this exciting opportunity to travel and experience the best in live professional theatre performances happening today.

“The Kellum family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Sam and Mary Haskell for their very generous gift in Helen’s memory which helped establish this endowment,” said Gloria Kellum.

Michael Barnett, chair and professor of theatre & film, said, “The Helen Ward Kellum Legacy Award for Excellence in Theatre Arts Fund will bring significant value to the students in our department. The nature of the work that we do requires our students to travel to conferences, showcases, and large audition calls around the country. For many the financial burdens that this creates can be, at times, overwhelming.

“Through the generosity of Glenn Kellum, Gloria Kellum, and their families, the wonderful devotion of Helen Kellum to our students will continue in the years to come. The Department of Theatre & Film students, staff, and faculty are deeply grateful for their support.”
