MGA activities advance a mission of providing high-quality services and resources in support of educational efforts in Mississippi that prepare young people to embrace a diverse world, succeed in the global economy, and steward the planet’s resources. This grant fund office operations, professional development activities for K-12 teachers and education students, the giant map of the United States program and Geography Awareness Week and other outreach activities related to increasing geographic literacy in the state of Mississippi.

Ferguson Fund for Geography Education

The Ferguson Fund supports educational experiences that are related to exploration of environments, economies, and cultures and that applies such learning to the regional, national, and global contexts in which Mississippians live their lives. The Fund encourages educators to engage in nationally recognized professional development and exploration by supporting unique programs and competitive educator fellowships. This year’s projects include a BioBlitz, the Giant Traveling Map program, and professional development in geospatial technology and geography education.
