While the next few weeks can be some of our lives’ most joyful, the desire to meet the season’s expectations and demands can also be overshelming and stressful. In the beautiful, tranquil setting of the University of Mississippi Museum, two workshops are scheduled which combine yoga with creative writing.
On Saturday, December 10 from 1:00pm- 4:00pm, the first workshop is titled, “Body, Breath and Words.” Professor of English, Ann Fisher-Wirth will guide the participates in both the use of words, and yoga. Dr. Fisher-Wirth is also the director of the environmental studies program. The workshop will explore the deep connections between body, breath and words, alternating between breathing exercises (pranayama), simple yoga poses (asanas), and writing prompts, and improvisation. You are requested to bring a journal or notebook and pen. The workshop is $40 for the general public, $30 for museum members, and $20 for students with I.D.
The second workshop will be Saturday, December 17 from 10:00am- noon, and is titled, “Shake the Holiday Stress Yoga.” For the general public, the cost is $30, for museum members, it’s $25, and for students with I.D. the cost is $15.
Centuries of practice have shown that yoga is an effective tool in decreasing the physical and mental effects of stress. Lethargy, insomnia, anxiety, achiness and grumpiness are just a few of the ways stress can manifest. Treat yourself, or someone you would love, to an early holiday gift. These workshops are designed for all ages and all abilities; participants are asked to wear comfortable clothes.
