UM Students Help Boy Scouts Learn About Chemistry

Members of the University of Mississippi’s student chapter of the American Chemical Society shared their experiences and knowledge of chemistry, biochemistry and chemical engineering with more than 20 Boy Scouts from Oxford and Pontotoc recently by teaching the Chemistry merit badge.

The group gathered in a laboratory in Coulter Hall on the UM campus to perform experiments demonstrating chemical reactions, changes in pressure and density, and the differences between physical changes and chemical changes. The session also included a discussion of environmental hazards, the four branches of chemistry and careers in chemistry and chemical engineering.
