The New Encyclopedia of Southern Culture

NESC_Complete_Set_oversizedUniversity of North Carolina Press, 2006-2013

Series Editor, Charles Reagan Wilson, Kelly Gene Cook Sr. Chair of History and professor of Southern Studies

Beginning with Religion in 2006 and concluding with Folk Art and Race in May, this 24-volume update of the original Encyclopedia of Southern Culture reflects the newest scholarship on the region. Originally published in 1989, the Encyclopedia of Southern Culture was “the first attempt ever” according to U.S. News & World Report “to describe every aspect of a region’s life and thought, the impact of its history and policies, its music and literature, its manners and myths, even the iced tea that washes down its catfish and cornbread.”
