Allison Burkette, associate professor of linguistics, has the story, Cornpone: A Borrowed Term for a Borrowed Staple, from the winter issue of Gravy quarterly, produced by UM’s Southern Foodways Alliance. Burette’s research interests include language variation and its connection to cultural factors, which is the subject of her recent book, Language and Material Culture.
