The University of Mississippi in Oxford will host its fifth annual Piano Discoveries Camp from June 12-18, 2011. This week-long camp is open to students entering seventh through twelfth grades who play at an intermediate level of skill or higher. Students are exposed to a curriculum that encompasses private tutoring, master classes, music theory, piano ensemble, sight-reading, technique and music technology.
The 2011 guest artist will be 18-year-old Adam Swanson, three-time World Junior Ragtime Piano Champion. Swanson will perform a concert and conduct a workshop on the evolution of ragtime dating back to the days of vaudeville. Special clinician will be Victoria Johnson, former head of piano pedagogy at Louisiana State University.
In addition to classroom and private instruction, there will be a variety of activities each evening as well as some fun recreational activities planned throughout the week. Tuition is $450 for resident campers and $375 for commuters. Registration deadline is May 20. Brochures and registration forms may be downloaded from the camp web site at http://www.outreach.olemiss.edu/youth/piano/.
